Christian Pulisic's Continued Success in Europe

Image
On Saturday, February 12th Chelsea defeated Palmeiras 2-1 in the Fifa Club World Cup. This is significant for American football due to the fact that this makes Christian Pulisic the first American to lift this trophy. This adds to a very impressive year for Pulisic as he has also won the UEFA Champions League and Super Cup with his club, as well as the CONCACAF Nations League with Team USA. Chelsea is currently positioned third in the Premier League table 16 points behind leaders Manchester City, which may be too far of a margin for Chelsea and Pulisic to capture a league title. Pulisic was subbed on just 30 minutes into the match following a Mason Mount injury. Manager Thomas Tuchel turned to the Americans to create havoc on the left-wing, and Pulisic contributed just that. American football players rush to Europe! Major League Soccer and USL sent a total of 37 players to different clubs in Europe during the January transfer window. This shows that these leagues are growing as the players begin to filter into some of the best teams in the world.   Player Ricardo Pepi scored a huge deal transferring from FC Dallas to FC Augsburg for a whopping $18 million deal! Sergiño Dest; a United States men's international player came in early to the second half of the FC Barcelona vs Atlético Madrid game on Sunday. After having a rough end to his 2021 he has been able to bounce back with a new found confidence and seems ready to play. After Dani Alves, Barcelona's right back received a red card during the game,  Sergiño Dest was brought into play. Dest was trying to prove himself to not only the team but manager Xavi that he was able to step up to the plate. Dest was able to perform well and contain the right side on defense for the remainder of match.  Barcelona was able to win the match and earn Xavi his most impressive match since he took over the managerial job. Since Alves is out for the next match and Roberto is still recovering slowly from his injury, Dest may be the clear man for the job for right back in the upcoming match against Espanyol next Sunday. There were rumors arising that Dest might leave the FC Barcelona team but he has alway
